Perspectives Of Language Learning In Tribal Schools

 English is being treated as world language because of its vast presence all over the world. At this present need, learning English gains currency. Majority of Indian students particularly from rural pockets consider English as a magical and mystical word. The moment they listen to English, they start feeling uneasy, considering it to be an alien language. Due to this aversion to English, teachers who handle English classes also face insurmountable difficulties. Students too find it difficult to listen and understand English. What are the reasons for this? What are the remedial measures that have to be taken to alleviate these problems? After visiting the tribal schools of the Nilgiris district to find the real situation and discussing the problems with the students and the faculty, I hereby in this paper discuss in detail, the problem faced by students and teachers in learning and teaching language effectively. This paper aims at arriving at solutions for the problems faced in teaching- learning process by the teachers and students of the tribal schools.
