In the present study, top heat loss coefficient, Ut, of a single glazed flat plate collector has been estimated by employing analytical equation for different operating and climatic conditions. Value of effective black body sky temperature has to be substituted in the analytical equation for computation of Ut. Different studies for estimation of sky temperature have been reported in literature. These studies result in different values of effective black body sky temperature for the same ambient condition. Variation in values of Ut, obtained by using values of sky temperature from different studies has been studied. The range of variables considered in the present analysis is 333-423K for absorber plate temperature, 10-20W/m2K for wind heat transfer coefficient, 288-318K for ambient temperature and 30-70% for relative humidity.  The maximum variation in estimated values of Ut has been found 14% for whole range of variables covered in the present work
