The development of cell loading problems is considered as a key activity in the successful cellular manufacturing. In this survey article, the implementation of loading parameters for cells and its impact on total cost and throughput time of products in a cellular manufacturing environment are presented. This survey work identifies and compiles the optimization strategies and solution approaches by the researchers. Subsequently, the information provides an insight of existing conflicts, which has great impact on system performance. The discussion is focusing on single and multi-objectives of mathematical cell loading models which include the decision parameters. The solution approaches are categorized as exact, heuristic and meta-heuristic and simulation approaches. These are further compared based on their solution performance and highlighting the benefits and limitations of the existing work.
