The present study is based on the wetlands of Malda District in West Bengal in general and some selected wetlands in particular. The presences of large number of wetlands, their distribution and their individual areal coverage, the wetlands are of significant importance from the physical-hydrological and as well as human perspectives. Serious studies of these wetlands, their characteristics, functions and impact on human interest have largely remained untouched. Therefore, the present work has attempted to initiate a study with a wide spectrum issues concerning the physical presence of the wetlands and at the consequent interactive relationship with man and his ever-diverging interest involving the wetlands in the district of Malda.
